A speaker, writer, and coach, Barbara Hemphill is The Vision Accelerator and founder of Productive Environment Institute. She is passionate about eliminating the physical, digital, and emotional clutter that derails dreams.
Featured on the cover of Top 100 Entrepreneurs & Innovators and a member of 100 Women to Know in America, Barbara began her career in 1978 with a $7 ad in a New York newspaper. Her best-selling book, Taming the Paper Tiger, launched the organizing industry valued at $12.2 billion in 2022. Her world-class expertise, based on “Clutter is postponed decisions®,” is delivered virtually by an international team of Certified Productive Environment Specialists. . The New Yorker magazine recently released a story about the impact of the professional organizing industry in American culture.
Her most popular speaking topics are “Taming the Paper Tiger in the Digital Age,” and “Less Clutter More Life: Strategies for Increasing Profit, Productivity and Peace of Mind.”
Growing up on the second floor of a tenant farmhouse in Nebraska, Barbara learned firsthand the necessity of being organized. Throughout the years, her clients—from ambassadors to artists and everyone in between—have shared how decluttering their physical and emotional lives has improved their relationships, businesses, and creative pursuits.
Hemphill combines her professional insights and her clients’ testimonials into her most recent book, Love It Or Lose It: Living Clutter-Free Forever. Her other books include Organizing Paper @ Home, Less Clutter More Life, and Walking with Barbara: 30 Emails from God. She has appeared on NBC’s Today Show, CBS’s This Morning, CNN, and Good Morning America and in Fast Company, New York Times, Real Simple, and Guideposts
In 2022, Hemphill launched Shepherd’s House Ministry in Manipur, India, to build a center that will serve as a residence and a center for ministry and entrepreneurship.
She has been married to Alfred Taylor for 37 years and has three adopted adult children, two stepchildren, and four grandchildren.
