In this episode of Chasing the Insights, I talk to award-winning author Emily Bernath.

Emily talks to us about how becoming an author has been a great entrepreneurial journey for her.

Emily Bernath began writing out of her passion for women’s ministry and desire to be a light to survivors of sexual assault. As a rape survivor herself, Emily’s life quickly hit rock bottom. She found herself confronting God in anger, asking him what on earth she did to deserve such treatment. In this season of darkness, Emily was reintroduced to church through a group of friends who pointed her to God’s light and love. While she had a hardened heart toward God at the time, she knew those friends saw her and loved her in a way that she didn’t know how to herself, so she went.

Through rediscovering faith and an identity in Christ, Emily has found healing from the abuse and freedom from the shame and condemnation in this world. She lives to be a resource for other sexual assault survivors and help them find that same freedom. She advocates survivors by teaching classes to other advocates about the spiritual impact of sexual assault and by serving on the board of Reveal to Heal International.

Emily is the award-winning author of both Broken Lenses: Identifying Your Truth in a World of Lies and Broken Lenses Volume 2: Seeing Others’ Value in a World of Division. Before beginning her career as an author, she earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in business administration. She currently resides in Salt Lake City. When she’s not writing, she enjoys drinking good coffee, playing softball, getting involved at her local church, and connecting with other people and hearing their stories.
